Client
State of Minnesota Agency, Management Analysis & Development (MAD)
Objective
Replace and upgrade the existing project management and timesheet software, including comprehensive data migration from a legacy system.
Background
The agency previously utilized a legacy system built with CLARION and ISAM file database technology to manage projects and track staff time entries. This system, operational since 1991, required modernization to meet current technological and business needs.
Datalytique’s Role
Datalytique was contracted to not only replace the outdated timesheet system but also to migrate decades’ worth of data from the legacy system. Our team of business analysts and technical experts performed an in-depth analysis of the MAD Timesheet system and its business processes. Based on this analysis, we devised a milestone-based approach for the data migration and integration into Datalytique’s advanced Timesheet Reporting System.
Key Project Components
-
Data Migration: Datalytique undertook the critical task of migrating legacy data that dated back to 1991. This involved transferring vast amounts of historical data while ensuring the integrity and accuracy of the information during the transition. The goal was to seamlessly integrate this legacy data into the new system without any loss or corruption.
-
Security Compliance: Adhering to the stringent security guidelines specified in the contract was of utmost importance. To meet these requirements, Datalytique developed robust SQL Server stored procedures using both T-SQL and .NET, along with triggers, tables, and views. These measures were essential to secure all data points mandated by MAD, ensuring that sensitive information was protected throughout the process.
-
Development and Implementation: The development phase involved creating specialized tools in .NET to facilitate the seamless migration of data from the legacy system. Datalytique delivered a clean and intuitive web-based application that met all business and process requirements set by MAD. This modern interface was designed to enhance user experience and improve overall efficiency.
-
Automation and Integration: To streamline operations, Datalytique automated workflow-based data flow within the new system. This automation was crucial for maintaining efficient data processing and management. Additionally, the development of SSIS packages enabled efficient data interfacing with the Timesheet System, ensuring smooth and continuous data exchange between different components of the system.
-
Advanced Reporting Capabilities: A significant highlight of the project was the design and implementation of a dynamic reporting tool. This tool empowered MAD to create custom data sources and generate ad-hoc reports tailored to their specific needs. Moreover, Datalytique developed an out-of-the-box solution for creating report templates. This solution, utilizing a .NET Windows Forms application, allowed MAD to generate custom structures for dynamic reports, providing them with a powerful and flexible reporting framework.
